The Porter Beer Bar is the hottest new entry in the Atlanta gastro-pub scene, with a kitchen headed by Nick Rutherford (formerly of Seeger's, Quinones at Bacchanalia, and the Chocolate Bar), one of Atlanta's "most talented chefs," according to Creative Loafing. Located in the heart of Little Five Points, this cozy restaurant with its hand-crafted wooden booths and exposed brick wall is the perfect place for a casual dinner of gourmet pub grub and a few glasses of one of the 300 beers on offer. The restaurant is all-ages and non-smoking until 10 PM, so feel free to bring the kids who will love the salt-and-vinegar popcorn, the cheeseburger, the fish and chips, and the gourmet root beer. The Porter also has a "Hair of the Dog" brunch on weekends with banana caramel pecan hotcakes, biscuits and sausage gravy, and a smoked salmon scramble.
Creative Loafing has weighed in: "Our food was terrific – as were the prices." The Atlanta Journal-Constitution raved that the Reuben is "possibly the best sandwich in Atlanta" and the signature hush puppies "are so perfectly crackled on the outside and fluffy hot inside that eating them can only result in the eater uttering gratified animal sounds." Atlanta Magazine named the Porter Beer Bar the "best beer haunt" and as well as one of the "One of the Fab Fifteen" Creative Loafing's Critics gave The Porter "Best Bar Food 2009"
